As promised... Earl has arrived at the junkyard...
Local congregrational church and graveyard. Yes there are names on the stones.
Well... it IS 1919...
Planning A Park
Sight-lines and relations for a small park in which some fellows will be building a snowman and etc.. Train comes in first passing the trees - which separate the park from the tracks - and then pulls into the station. We get our first look at the cobblestone streets of the small "city center" and the relation between the location of the terminal to the town as was habitually established by the Chicago Great Western RR. I took these pictures to adjust sight-lines and get relations between segments. Obviously detailed work is far from finished. I also have yet to "snow" things over.

Where do you buy your stuff from? Is it something where you buy it all in bulk or pick out individual pieces one by one?
I'm absolutely fascinated by your process.
is a park appropo for a small town in this time period?
or would it be more or less like a sand lot converted to a baseball field?
adam - there's an entire industry for scale modelers. If you wanted to take a good look you could enture http://www.nscalesupply.com/ and click "catalog" for probably the largest collection of items. But the more you look the more is out there. I've found scale vehicles correct to 1919 (trucks, cars, wagons) in a couple places. Some things need better search skills. But it isn't all online. There are monthly "bourses" for train people here in Chicago, and one of the better devoted stores is but 7 miles away.
gino - Formalized village parks existed in this part of the country from the Civil War era if not before. In the case of our town it is merely taking advantage of a clearing that exists between a stand of trees and Main Street. It isn't very big and I'm looking for a good canon to add or something. It won't be grand, but I know of a park in a town called Lewistown IL that made it "OK" to do this.
You named the dog Earl!
Sweet!
Well we did promise that, if you recall. I think the fact that a junkyard ought to have a dog was your idea, Earl.
does that nix the baseball field?
no room for one right now. besides, it's Christmas.
